A post to rant on linux.

I am a 3d artist using linux.
As of today (16.10.2025) I have 2 PCs:

• main desktop PC - Manjaro with Plasma.
• laptop - Manjaro with Plasma also.

And I can definately say, that after all these years linux is still UNRELIABLE.
Or may be it’s just linux is not ready for rolling release, I don’t know.
At some point, after update, Substance Painter stopped working for 4 or 5 months!
Can you imagine saying to the client: “I’m sorry, I can’t make textures in Subs for the asset you’ve ordered and I won’t be able to send you .spp files as you requested and paid for, bc my OS is unreliable”.
Thanks to the Timeshift I could downgrade my system and keep it outdated for the whole time they were fixing libraries for Subs.

And this post is a place to rant on linux.

Can’t update few applications installied via yay, bc of some glycin-gtk4.

ChatGPT says it is bc Manjaro repos can’t keep up with Arch repos.

HIP stopped working in Blender, so I can’t render anything with GPU.
So I had to install separate package from AUR.

Imagine you saved an image via browser, or saved a screenshot, you go to the destination folder and… there is no such file.
You have to hit f5 in Dolphin in order to see files. Every time.

You add file to favorites, so you can access it from the application launcher.
You delete this file.
Now you can’t remove it form favorites.
You have to create fake file this the same name in the same path, then remove it from favorites, then delete fake file.

After an update, Libre Office began to see all files as ‘corrupted’.

Fsearch stopped working this time.
And I can’t remove this f-ing icon from tray.

After another update, Dolphin (file manager) just became unusable.

I can’t select anything or scroll. But after I resize the window, it updates as if I’ve selected something and scrolled.
When you have an intention to use rolling release linux, especially this ‘user friendly arch’, you HAVE TO install Timeshift and make sure you have enough space on your drive to keep all the snapshots.

Luckily it is just a warning window, I was able to boot and so on.

Do you know, that Ctrl + Alt + T is a usual hotkey for opening terminal?
On Plasma it is called ‘Konsole’, and it has the same hotkey.
But after update it’s just… gone. Just like that.
Rolling release on linux is so awesome!

Ok, this is an interesting one.
Kernel 5.10 is running, internet is working fine as you can see (I open mastodon).

I install kernel 5.15… internet is gone…

As you can see, this kernel is marked as RECOMMENDED.
Is there some other meaning of this word?
How am I supposed to get the information of how to downgrade kernel without internet?
Well, yeah, manjaro is a ‘user friendly’ arch.

Ok, so I have Manjaro with Plasma, and this is regular FF installed via pacman.
